  NORTH EAST REGION

The Credit Guarantee Fund Scheme for Small Industries envisages provision of guarantees, to the extent of 75% in respect of loans given to SSIs without collateral security and/or third party guarantee up to a maximum of Rs. 25 lakh, by banks (and other lending institutions) which have registered with the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Small Industries (CGTSI) as Member Lending Institutions (MLIs). The Scheme is being operated by the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Small Industries (CGTSI), set up by the Government of India and Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI).

As on 30th September 2005, 753 proposals for Rs. 17.24 crore were approved under the Credit Guarantee Scheme from the North Eastern States (including Sikkim).

12 Seminars and 3 workshops on Credit Guarantee Scheme were attended/participated by CGTSI in the North-Eastern Region (including Sikkim).

Setting up of Tool Room & Training Centre (TRTC) at Guwahati.
During the month the Tool Room & Training Centre, Guwahati has conducted 2 short term training courses on CNC technology and Auto CAD in which 7 persons were trained.

Central Tool Room & Training Centre, Kolkata has assisted 2 Mini Tool Room and Training Centre, one at Dimapur and another at Agartala in finalizing the list of the plant & machinery.

Entrepreneurship Development Programme in North Eastern Region

7 Entrepreneurship Development Programme, 12 Motivational Campaign and 2 Management Development Programme were conducted in the North Eastern Region for 908 persons.

FIRST NATIONAL EXPO OF SMALL, AGRO AND RURAL INDUSTRIES

The first National Expo of Small, Agro and Rural Industries was organised from 26th to 29th September, 2005 at Ashok Hotel, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi under the aegis of Ministry of Small Scale Industries and Ministry of Agro & Rural Industries, Government of India. The four-day Exposition was inaugurated by Shri Pranab Mukherjee, Union Defence Minister on the 26th of September, 2005 at 10.00 AM at Ashok Hotel, New Delhi. One hundred and forty units from 25 States and Union Territories had participated in the Expo, focusing on employment opportunities, export-import innovation and value added services provided by Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO), National Small Industries Development Corporation (NSIC), Khadi & Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Coir Board. Shri Mahabir Prasad, Union Minister of Small Scale Industries and Agro and Rural industries presided over the inaugural ceremony. Shri Anupam Dasgupta, Secretary, Ministry of SSI and ARI and Shri Satyananda Mishra, Development Commissioner(Small Scale Industrie) were also present in the function.

The exhibits included products from electrical and electronics, general engineering, garment and hosiery, handicraft and leather, cane and bamboo, stationery and allied items, agro and food products, coir carpets and mattresses, Ayurvedic and other herbal products. The themes of Seminars ranged from "Innovative Financing for Small Enterprises Development" (on 26th September, 2005, at 2.30 PM) to "Rural Employment Generation Programme - opportunities and convergence" (on the 27th September, 2005 at 11.30 AM) and "Cluster/Consortium based Development of Coir Industry" (on the 28th September, 2005 at 2.30 PM) at the venue of the Exposition. Experts from the related fields addressed and participated in the Seminar to focus on the specified topics.

Thousands of visitors, both domestic and foreign, visited the National Expo of Small, Agro and Rural Industries during 26 - 29 September, 2005 jointly sponsored by Small Industries Development Organisation (SIDO), National Small Industries Corporation Ltd. (NSIC), Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) and Coir Board on the lawns of Ashok Hotel. Many distinguished guests including Shri Oscar Fernandes, Union Minister of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Shri Subodh Kant Sahai, Union Minister of State for Food Processing Industries; Shri Santosh Bagrodia, Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Industries; Dr. Sayeda Hameed, Member, Planning Commission, Dr. Vallbhbhai Katheria, MP, Shri Saheb Singh Verma, Ex-Union Minister and Ms. Anupama Singh, wife of the Chief of Army Staff, General J.J. Singh, representatives of several Export Promotion Councils, Industry Associations, Export Houses Counsellors (Economic) of different embassy visited the Expo.

Dr. Sayeda Hameed, Member, Planning Commission, chaired the Seminar on "Innovative Financing for Small Enterprise Development" organised by NSIC on 26 September, 2005. She also appreciated the products displayed at the National Expo. On the second day, another Seminar on "Rural Employment Generation Programme - Opportunities and Convergence" was organized which was chaired by the chairperson of Army Wives Welfare Association Mrs. Anupama Singh .

Shri Santosh Bagrodia, M.P., Chairman of the Parliament Standing Committee on Industries chaired a Seminar on "Cluster/Consortium based Development of Coir Industry" organised as a part of the National Expo of Small, Agro and Rural Industries on the third day.

During the commencement of Expo, Shri Anupam Dasgupta, Secretary(SSI & ARI), addressed a Press Conference on the 28th of September, 2005, which was attended by a number of leading journalists.

The National Expo was also visited by office bearers and members of several Industry Associations like FICCI, CII, Laghu Udyog Bharati, AIMO, ICSE, FASII, FISME, WASME and Defence Suppliers Association. Besides, representatives of Industries Departments of many States/UTs and Small Industries Service Institutes e also organised visits by leading industrialists and entrepreneurs to the Exposition. Large buyers and representatives of export houses also visited the National Expo with the help of Export Promotion Council and Federation of Indian Export Organisations.

Shri Mahabir Prasad, Union Minister of Small Scale Industries and Agro & Rural Industries presented awards (Mementoes and Certificates) to 15 Outstanding Exhibitors from all categories on the final day i.e. 29th September, 2005. The selection of awardees was done by a Committee under the Chairmanship of Joint Secretary, Ministry of Small Scale Industries, Shri Pravir Kumar, and comprising Joint Secretary, Ministry of Agro & rural industries, Shri A.P. Padhi and Dr. A. R. Arya, Executive Director, National Institute of Entrepreneurship and Small Business Development (NIESBUD).

SIDO participated in an International Exhibition at Nairobi, Kenya during the period 14 to 20th September 2005 and displayed the exhibits of 21 SSI units. Confirmed order of 12000 USD has been received along with trade enquires for the value of 1.5 million USD.

SIDO participated in an International Exhibition at Milan, Italy during the period 22 to 25th September 2005 and displayed the exhibits of 21 SSI units. Trade enquires for the value of 1.00 million has been received.

SIDO participated in South African International Trade Exhibition (SAITEX), Johannesburg during the period 27 to 30th September 2005 and displayed the exhibits of 26 SSI units. Trade enquires for the values of 1.75 million USD have been received.
