  • PROGRAMME OBJECTIVES:

    1. Technological upgradation of the stone industry including Development of international market for the dimensional stone items

    2. Development of a National Center for the Dimensional Stone Industry with facility for testing, certification and Human Resource Development.

    3. Development of State of Art Mining Technologies for quarrying of Stones to reduce the pollution of the environment and also improve health standards for the workers.

  • CURRENT STATUS:

    1. Project launched by MOS(SSI & ARI) on 17th November, 2000.

    2. Center for the Development of Stones, Jaipur selected as nodal agency for implementation of the project.

    3. Participation of the Indian Stone Industry in the International Stone Fairs held in Nuremberg (Germany) and Carrara (Italy), in May/ June 2001 and Verona (Italy) in October 2002.

    4. STONA 2002, International exhibition on Dimensional Stones, Buyer seller meet on Stone products and Shilp Gram held at Bangalore, from 6th to 10th February 2002.

    5. National Institute of Rock Mechanics (NIRM), Kolar (Karnataka), selected as Consultant for establishing National Test House for Indian Stones.

    6. Training course on Stone Quarrying by NIRM held in Rajasthan in June 2002.

    7. Compendium of Stones in India launched in print and on website.

    8. International Stone Fair ‘STONEMART 2003’ to be held at Jaipur in Feb. 2003.
