IPR OUTREACH – BEST PRACTICES

The SME Division of the World Intellectual Property Organziation (WIPO) constantly reviews the Best Practices being implemented by support institutions worldwide who have successfully implemented mechanisms for making IP Rights more accessible and relevant to SMEs. As part of these reviews, the Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) has been identified as one of the institutions as a Best Practice for its outreach activities. The endeavor of the IPR Cell in SIDO has been highlighted on WIPO’s Website ( www.wipo.int/sme/en ) for a well thought out strategy for generating awareness on IPR amongst SMEs in different parts of the country. SIDO’s efforts have yielded encouraging results and have helped to reach out to other Government agencies and NGOs working on IP issues. The future strategy to be adopted by SIDO in handling IPR issues pertaining to the SME sector has also been highlighted.

WIPO’s website also hosts three success stories (case studies) of SMEs in India using the Intellectual Property System. These case studies have been prepared by the IPR Cell at SIDO.
